Niobium carbide (NbC) is a green cubic crystal with metallic luster and belongs to the sodium chloride cubic crystal system. It is a high melting point, high hardness material, widely used in refractory high-temperature materials, and cemented carbide additives.

Niobium carbide has excellent chemical stability and high-temperature performance. Insoluble in cold and hot hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, soluble in a mixed solution of hot hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid, melted in titanium carbide, zirconium carbide, tungsten carbide, and other compounds, and together form a homogeneous solid solution mixture. It is stable at 1000-1100°C and oxidizes rapidly to niobium pentoxide above 1100°C. It is generally packed in plastic bottles or aluminum foil bags in an outer carton.

Product Usage:

1. Application in composite materials:

Multi-phase ceramics: As one of the raw materials of multi-phase ceramic materials, the multi-phase ceramic materials made of niobium carbide are often used in wear-resistant parts and cutting due to their high hardness, high melting point, excellent chemical stability, and conductivity Tool and electrode fields.

Cemented carbide: Not only can it be used as an inhibitor for the growth of cemented carbide grains, but also can form a third dispersed phase with WC and Co together with other carbides, which can significantly improve the hot hardness and thermal shock resistance of cemented carbide, The ability to resist heat pressure and oxidation. Since niobium carbide has the advantages of improving the hardness of the alloy and improving the fracture toughness of the composite, it can be used to prepare cemented carbide tool materials with excellent cutting performance. Niobium carbide can also be processed into purple artificial gems.

Surfacing electrode: The hard niobium carbide hard phase enters the surfacing layer structure, so that the welding layer has a better wear-resistant skeleton, and the wear resistance is much improved. The wear resistance alloy of this electrode surfacing welding is 1.2-1.8 times higher than the quenched 45 steel (HRC50) and 2.4-3.6 times higher than the Fe-Cr-C-B type wear-resistant alloy. At the same time, the wear-resistant surfacing layer does not require preheating when welding and can be surfacing on the surface of the workpiece. The small cracks generated on the surface can release the stress of the surfacing layer and will not diffuse into the base material.

Also, the steel strengthening phase adds a small amount of niobium carbide in the steelmaking process, which can achieve the effect of precipitation strengthening and fine crystal strengthening, thereby improving the overall mechanical properties of the steel.

Aerospace components: used as preparation materials for many aerospace equipment components such as turbine rotors, gas rudders, blades, engine nozzle linings, and nuclear reactor structural parts.

2. Application in coating materials:

Mold steel surface coating: niobium carbide is a metal carbide with high hardness, heat resistance, and wear resistance. Therefore, coating it on steel indicates that the wear resistance of the mold surface can be improved.

Metal workpiece coating: The surface of the metal workpiece is compounded with a layer of niobium carbide, which significantly improves the surface hardness and can reach more than HV2800. At the same time, it increases the working temperature of the workpiece and the density of the structure, thereby extending its service life.

The niobium carbide coating can be achieved on the surface of the cast iron piston ring through chemical liquid deposition treatment.
