Application of high purity alumina in thermally conductive composite materials

With the continuous advancement of science and technology, the rapid development of electronics, aerospace, and aviation, especially communication technology, electronic components are constantly developing from discrete components to high-power, integration, and modularization, so more heat will inevitably be generated during operation. At the same time, due to the more complex use occasions and working conditions, the requirements for the thermal conductivity of the materials are getting higher and higher. Although traditional metal heat conduction has high thermal conductivity, it has its fatal shortcoming: poor insulation. Polymer composite materials can overcome the above defects and are widely used in various industrial heat conduction occasions.
Thermally conductive composite materials are prepared by adding high thermal conductivity fillers to organic and polymer materials (body thermal conductive materials). Since natural polymer materials have low thermal conductivity and are tough to improve, it is challenging to choose high thermal conductivity fillers for organic polymer materials and filling to prepare composite thermal conductive material. Alumina is a commonly used filler for composite thermally conductive materials, mainly because alumina has higher thermal conductivity, better insulation properties, and stable physical and chemical properties.

So what are the factors that affect the thermal conductivity of thermally conductive composites?
①Performance of the filler itself: right density, morphology, etc.;
②Fusibility: specific surface area.
